With the release of Lemmy 0.14 that includes federation with other ActivityPub services, I of course had to test how it would work with Hubzilla. I subscribed to the
!announcement@lemmy.ml
community at the developers own instance. I had to drop the exclamation point when subscribing from Hubzilla, but otherwise the contact was added. And not long after I started getting the first messages from the community in my network stream.
The contact will not be listed as a forum in Hubzilla, but a regular contact. Comments will appear as if they are forwarded from the subscribed community, much like posts in a Hubzilla forum is these days. It would of course be extremely cool if Lemmy communities would appear as forums in the Hubzilla UI, but I expect that will be quite a bit of work on the Hubzilla side, so I do not expect that. Still cool to be able to follow and interact with yet another platform!
To test I responded to the Lemmy announcement from Lemmy, and my own comment from Hubzilla. Here's the result as seen from Hubzilla:
And here's the same conversation seen from Lemmy:
Pretty cool, I think! :)
